Little Night Flower

The theme for this week was green, purple and orange. To go with this I got the pattern/technique prompt roses.  And this is what I did: More details after the jump.

This was a difficult one because I had to choose favourites.  I cheated a little bit as I used acrylic paint as well but my 3 favourite polishes are in there. More details after the jump.

As I've been unwell for the past couple of months I've not had time to edit and upload all my manis for the 33 Day Challenge so I shall be posting quite a lot in the next few days to get them all online. Not one to do things in order I'm going back even further in the challenge and finally posting my South American inspired mani.  I tried to evoke the bright colours and excitement of the Mardi Gras in Rio with this look. I appear to be playing catch up again.  Prepare for lots of posts over the next couple of days and lots of colour.  Summer has come to an end and it is getting very grey and cold in this little part of the world so I decided my nails needed to be a lot more colourful. I had a few ideas for this and I have maybe taken a few liberties interpreting the theme.  I have interpreted pattern as something you might see printed on fabric and I went for neon paint splatter on black. When I first decided to participate in a challenge I came up an idea for dots and had to paint it while it was still in my head.  Apologies for the orange tone of the picture, I was still getting to grips with my camera when this was taken and hadn't quite mastered indoor night-time pictures.  I've seen this look done before but I had a couple of polishes I thought would really work together for this. I'm giving my natural nails a rest today (I'm still wearing the stripes mani posted yesterday) and I've painted some tips instead.  As my cousin has been very supportive of my nail art I had no choice but to do tiger stripes for the animal print theme as they are her favourite animal. Lots of posts to upload this week after a quite week away! For Monkey See Monkey Do Monday I have attempted the dotty rainbow from Robin Moses  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm6019M1O6g .  Many of my MSMD Monday posts have and will be inspired by this amazing artist.  Her explanations of how to apply pressure when painting various shapes has really helped me get to grips with painting on nails with acrylic paint and added a whole new dimension to my nail art. I had a quick practice on a tip to get the technique down. More details after the break.

This Saturday sees my favourite band Green Day play the Emirates Stadium in London.  Many of my friends will be there but I unfortunately will not.  To cheer myself up I have created a design on my nails to match their most recent album releases UNO, DOS and TRE. More details after the break.

This week I thought I would have a go at recreating the look from these  Model's Own Wah Nails wraps .  Obviously mine don't look as neat and professional as the wraps which, are based on the most popular designs from the Wah Nails Salons, but I was still pleased with how they turned out. Day 4 of the tri-polish challenge and time to try out a new technique. This required a few days planning as I decided to use a dry marbling technique.  I used the chosen polishes (Rimmel Sky High, 17 Tropical Island and NYC Faithful Fuchsia) along with China Glaze Liquid Leather and Barry M Matt White.   I started by painting a base of Liquid Leather onto a sheet cut from a freezer food bag.  Onto this base I dripped a line of Matt White and various drops of the other polishes.  I swirled the colours together using a cocktail stick then left the polish to dry for a couple of days. Once dry I peeled the polish off the plastic and cut to a size that would fit on each nail.  I painted a base of Liquid Leather on each nail and carefully placed a piece of the marbled polish onto each nail using a cocktail stick to get the dry polish piece to stick to the wet polish.  After a couple of minutes I covered each nail with a layer of China Glaze Fast F...

In between coughing and spluttering this week I've had a go at a basic tape mani.  The polishes I've chosen for the challenge are Rimmel Sky High, NYC Faithful Fuchsia and 17 Tropical Island.  For this look I've added China Glaze Liquid Leather for the black top coat. I originally had the idea for this using blue, yellow and pink.  However, given the polishes I had chosen for the tri-polish challenge were quite bright I thought they would work well for this idea too. I cut thin strips of masking tape as I wanted lines thicker than the standard striping tape.  I had all kinds of fun trying to mask off just the small colour blocks in the middle of the nails and avoid getting black polish all over my fingers while painting over the tape.. Always room for improvement but not bad for a newbie! I look forward to seeing what everyone else has chosen to do for today.

If at first you don't succeed...moan and complain about it then pick yourself up and have another go! The colours for the tri-polish challenge this month are turquoise (Rimmel Sky High), pink (NYC Faithful Fuchsia) and orange (17 Tropical Island). You know those days when nothing seems to go right?  Well I'm having one of those days.  I've picked up the cold that has been doing the rounds and I've been so busy that I totally forgot about theatre tickets I had bought in December so missed out on an evening with the stars from Strictly Come Dancing.  We had gales and dust storms too so a last minute mad dash through to the theatre was out of the question. To cheer myself up I decided to have a go at the tri polish challenge this month.  I came up with a very simple idea for today's mani with dots in the chosen colours. I managed to seriously smudge the first attempt so had to take it all off and start again.  After more smudging and retouching it was all finished for the second time, I  took a couple of pictures and brought up the page to get the link to enter the challenge.  This is when I discovered the colours for this month are turquoise, orange and pink and I had used turquoise, orange an...

I wasn't able to capture in the picture quite how vibrant the colours are in this and I'd had the polish on for 5 days before taking the picture so there is a bit of tip wear but I really love this look. There are shimmering shades of orange, gold and coral and the addition of the tiger stripes stamped on top really made the colours pop!   This was created with a base of No 17 (Lasting Fix) Glisten with a stripe of Rimmel (Cocktail Colour) Shirley Temple in the middle of each nail and stripes from Gals image plate GA32 stamped with Konad black special polish.  All this was topped off with a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward top coat. I love the range of colours that the No 17 polishes offer, they do a good line in subtle shimmer.  They are quite cheap as well so I can see me purchasing quite a few more in the near future. My stamping skills still leave a lot to be desired but I think this is one I will have a go at again as it was so much fun.
