Little Night Flower

On 13 August I went along to Eden Court Theatre in Inverness to watch a live stream from the V&A Museum in London of David Bowie Is... a look through the exhibition of costumes, artwork and various other artifacts from the archives.  The theatre got a mention at the start of the broadcast as the most northerly and the audience in the cinema cheered.  To celebrate this I created a mani inspired by my experience of David Bowie over the years. I had these pictures taken and was planning to set them up to post before I went away on holiday.  Unfortunately I wasn't quite as organised as I wanted to be and the posts were never written.  I'm playing catch up now so should have a few interesting things for you over the next few days. I've been having a play with my acrylic paints again! I thought I would take the colours from a Delft tile and make them work on nails. This was the result: More details after the break.

My goodness, I can't believe it is that time again.  I've been working so hard and lost track of time, I thought the challenge started next week, just as well I was a bit more organised than usual. My chosen polishes for this month are: Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream Barry M Cyan Blue Barry M Mint Green More details after the break.

I had a colour combination for a dark mani that I wanted to do but I wasn't sure about what form it would take.  After a bit of internet browsing I hit upon the idea of barbed wire and roses, but, everyone else used stamps to create the look and I didn't have anything suitable.  No problem I thought I'll just paint the design.  This was the result: Details, more pics and a bit of a variation on the idea after the break.

For inspiration I headed to our local library.  I grabbed a few big art books off the shelves and proceeded to flick my way through them sketching ideas as I went along.  One of the books I picked up was about ceramic artists of the 20th Century and a number of designs caught my eye.  For this look I have taken an element and the colours from a design by the artist Charlotte Rhead.  However I have not been able to find a picture of this design online to show you the source material.  However as there were other elements from this particular design I want to have a go at there will be more details in a future post. I have come to the Barry M Gelly party quite late.  However I am making up for lost time and have recently acquired 12 from the range due to various special offers making it worth my while. As green seems to be the colour of the moment I thought I would have a go with the green Gelly nail paints in my collection.  It was at this moment I was struck by a dilemma, which colour to choose?  The good thing about nail art is you don't have to choose just one colour!  This was the result: More details after the break.

For Monkey See Monkey Do Monday I have attempted the dotty rainbow from Robin Moses  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm6019M1O6g .  Many of my MSMD Monday posts have and will be inspired by this amazing artist.  Her explanations of how to apply pressure when painting various shapes has really helped me get to grips with painting on nails with acrylic paint and added a whole new dimension to my nail art. I had a quick practice on a tip to get the technique down. More details after the break.

Kerrie in the British Nail Bloggers Facebook group suggested we do nails to show some support for the colleagues, friends and family of Lee Rigby, a serving British soldier who was brutally murdered on the streets of Woolich.  I come from a military family and live in an area that has a lot of military personnel so I was all for getting involved. However I would just like to add this act would appear to be the work of some very disturbed individuals and I would in no way condone the wholesale condemnation of certain ethnic groups which has occurred since this horrific event.   Lee was wearing a Help for Heroes shirt ( http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ ) when he was attacked and this has proved to be a constructive focus to show some respect.  This is a great organisation that raises money to help wounded military personnel. This is a look inspired by this Robin Moses tutorial on You Tube .   As this week sees the tri colour polish challenge as well I have broken out the false tips to paint these designs.  It was just too cute not to have a go at and I will definitely be having another go at this one on my real nails. I saw this mani at So You Beauty  and had to give it a go.  The colour combination was one that had been in my head and I thought this was a great design to have a go at. I wasn't sure that my nails would be long enough to pull off this design and I have a mani I'm not ready to take off yet, so I have broken out the falsies.  I bought some nail tips from Sally's to practice painting on, so I don't wear out my own nails with all the ideas I want to try out.  While this might be cheating a little bit I did start with a blank canvas and the painting was all done by me. I am a member of the British Nail Bloggers group on Facebook.  It's a great place to get advice, share ideas and take part in challenges.  With a view to sharing information the group regularly sets an 'Ask a British Nail Blogger' question. This time round the question is what is your oldest polish?  As much as I love painting my nails and playing with colour, until fairly recently my nail polish collection was practically non existent and compared to many I still have quite a modest collection. The oldest polish in the collection is only around 3 years old and it is a bottle of Collection 2000 (now just Collection) Bongo Beat a lovely dark metallic teal colour.  Unfortunately that polish has gone AWOL in my bedroom and I can't find it, so I don't have a picture but you can see it on the Collection website  http://www.collectioncosmetics.co.uk/nails/nail-polish/hot-looks-nail-polish.aspx More details after the jump.
